Welgevonden Game Reserve
Kololo forms part of Welgevonden Game Reserve, a nature reserve of 34.850 ha in size. The entrance to Welgevonden is situated at only 200 meters from our reception and restaurant. In Welgevonden you will find the real big game: Big Five – elephant – lion – leopard – buffalo – rhino- but also cheetah, hippo and crocodile. From Kololo you overlook Welgevonden and with a bit of luck you can spot the animals from your house or from the restaurant viewing decks.
Flora en fauna
The landscape is quite diverse. Green fields with waving grassland, hills, valleys, rocky areas and water interchange with beautiful sights across the vast landscape.
Welgevonden Game Reserve is famous for its wide range of mammals. It is home to more than 50 different species, including the Big 5. There are also many rare and endangered species present, like the brown hyena, wolf and the aardvark. The enormous size of the reserve together with the diverse flora, enables each animal species and over 250 species of birds, including the rare blue crane, to thrive well and healthy.
Game Drive in Welgevonden
Welgevonden Game Reserve offers you the experience of enjoying the African bush privately and intimately: private cars are not allowed and only a limited number of people is permitted to enter the reserve. This guarantees a minimal impact on nature and allows you to fully immerse in the magic of South African nature.
With the 3,5 hours game drive you will set out to mainly discover the South of the reserve, looking for the big game. Kololo also offers a 6 hours game drive, taking you further North into the reserve. And the ultimate experience is Welgevonden-on-foot: intensely experiencing the bush with all your senses.
