Malaria is a real and present issue for some parts of South Africa. This disease is transmitted to humans through a bite of a female Anopheles mosquito. In the Limpopo Province malaria is mainly concentrates in and around the Kruger Park area. The good news is that: Kololo Game Reserve is malaria-free! Kololo Game Reserve is located in the Waterberg Biosphere, an area which has been a malaria-free area for more than 100 years. The Waterberg Mountains are over 1400 meters above sea-level and this altitude is too high for malaria mosquito’s to survive. Therefore there is no need to take any medicine or tablets to prevent malaria. Depending on the season insects and other bugs do live on Kololo If you go walking and biking we advise you to wear good (high) hiking shoes, long pants and use insect repellent to protect yourself from insect bites. For personal advice contact your doctor or go to your local health agency.
